A BRIT has died following a fight between tourists on the first night of his holiday in Benidorm.

Officers say the dead man is a 33-year-old Scot who died in the famous resort’s Little England area.

He had only checked into his four star apart-hotel hours before this morning’s fatal fight, say sources.

An autopsy, due to be held later today, will give officers more clues about how he died.

Cops say witnesses told them the brutal brawl involved other Brit tourists.

A spokesman for Spain’s National Police said: “We received an emergency call at around 3.15am this morning.

“Police were mobilised and arrived at the scene to find two people trying to assist another who was lying on the ground.

“He was confirmed dead shortly afterwards.

“The officers carried out a visual inspection of the scene along with a forensic expert and subsequently the man’s body was removed.

“The investigation is ongoing. No arrests have taken place at this stage.”

BRIT BRAWL

A Foreign & Commonwealth Office Spokesperson said: “Our staff are providing assistance to the family of a British man who has died in Benidorm.”

A well-placed source close to the police probe in Spain said: “We have to be cautious at the moment because the cause of death is not yet known.

“The autopsy will be carried out today and will hopefully establish why this man died and whether it was the result of a blow or a heart attack or something else.

“In the coming hours police will have more information. The dead man is a 33-year-old Scot who was staying in a hotel in Benidorm.”

The incident happened in a street called Calle Gerona – Gerona Street in English.

Calle Gerona crosses Mallorca Street, where an innocent Brit was among three people shot last July after he was caught up in a gang war.

Beachcomber, the bar where two workers were stabbed on February 24 after they tried to stop a fight between two Brits, is also in Mallorca Street.

The workers stabbed were from Romania and the Czech Republic. One was rushed to intensive care after being knifed in the stomach. The other was stabbed in the chest.

The Brits held over the incident were aged 20 and 21.
